29 12 2005 - Place Fell with Paul D |

We climbed up from Patterdale to Boredale Hause and continued via Round How to the summit. From the summit of Place Fell we followed the path that drops down between Black Crag and Mortar Crag and then follows Scalehow beck towards Ullswater. It was bright and sunny most of the day with much less snow than anticipated except on the highest fells. There were distant dark clouds from time to time but none approached us too closely. Despite a crisp, heavy frost everywhere it was also less cold than we expected though the summit was no place to loiter long. Visibility was good other than in the direction of the sun where views were hazy. Many people were out on the fells enjoying what was a great day for walking. Before heading home we enjoyed a fine pint of Hawkshead bitter at the Kirkstone Pass Inn next to a warm fire. |
