16 11 2005 - Heron Pike, Sheffield Pike, Green Side (Whitestones) and Hart Side |

It was a bright, sunny day but cold on the tops. Visibility was good except in the direction of Helvellyn where the sun seemed to hover low in the sky all afternoon making views in that direction hazy and full of shadow. I set off from the main car park along Greenside road and then took the path that climbs up between Glenridding Dodd and Heron Pike. From the saddle I followed the path up Heron Pike and then on to the summit of Sheffield Pike over ground that was very boggy in places. Leaving the summit I followed the path down to Nick Head before climbing again to the summit of Green Side and then on to Hart Side. I returned to Nick Head by the path that skirts the eastern flanks of Green Side and descended via the old mine workings to Greenside Road. I ended up back at the car park just as the light began to fail. |
