| 2008 04 10 - Clough Head via Calfhow Pike with Paul Drury. |
|
We parked at the side of the road on the B5322 near Hilltop Farm. It was a dull and cloudy day as we set off, following the Old Coach Road around the northern flanks of Clough Head as far as Mariel Bridge. There were a few specks of rain to begin with but as we climbed up Mosedale Beck we were subjected to a serious downpour which thankfully abated by the time we reached Calfhow Pike. The weather improved as the day wore on and we even had some blue sky and a little sunshine. We failed to find any semblance of a path off the top (through carelessness of course) and picked our way slowly and carefully down the steep slopes somewhere through Red Screes - a feat that looks impossible from a distance. |
