14 03 2008 - Skiddaw, Little Man and Sale How |

It was a grey day with lots of cloud which fortunately kept clear of the tops except on Skiddaw where there were no views to be had. I started from Latrigg car park and gasped my way up Jenkin Hill before following the path that goes through the gate and skirts around Lesser Man and Little Man. As I climbed towards Skiddaw's top the cloud became thicker and more extensive. All along the summit ridge a cold wind was blowing and without views there was nothing to detain me. I doubled back and clambered to the top of Little Man from where the views would have been spectacular on a clearer day. My next objective was the domed top of Sale How where I was rewarded with a little sunshine and a patch or two of blue sky. As I strolled down towards Skiddaw House the wind had dropped so that it was almost completely still and silent. I found myself entirely alone for a while with not even a stream or a bird to disturb the peacefulness. From Skiddaw House I followed the path over Salehow Beck and around the flanks of Lonscale Fell back to the car park. |
