17 05 2008 - The South Pennine Challenge

Mytholmroyd 7.40am and waiting for someone

Here he comes at last

Looking down on Mytholmroyd

Where's the sun?

Stoodley Pike in the distance

He can't stop dancing

Summit of Manshead Hill

Cairn on Manshead Hill

Greenwood Clough

A glimpse of Baitings Reservoir

The bottom of Greenwood Clough

Stile council

Baitings Reservoir

The first checkpoint near the reservoir

Climbing towards Rishworth Moor

These inept walkers had missed the left turn across the footbridge and had to return sheepishly

That's the way to do it!

The Aiggin Stone - an ancient way marker on the old packhorse road between Rochdale and Halifax

Littleborough in mist

Nearing the A58

The second checkpoint after 12.5 miles and the end of the challenge for me -

though I did walk another 6 miles back down into Mytholmroyd via Crag Vale (after a pint of course!)

Refreshments near The White House

Along the canal

Some flat walking at last

And then some more climbing

Higher and higher

But still no sunshine

21.5 miles done

And some still have enough strength to eat at the end
