05 03-20010 - Steel Fell, Calf Crag, Gibson Knott and Helm Crag.

Weekend in Grasmere 5th 6th and 7th of March 2010

A superb weekend was enjoyed by all concerned to celebrate Paul's 50th and Terry's 60th birthday (or was it the other way around?) We had unbelievably good weather over the three days, particularly on the  Sunday as can be seen by the photos from the Silver How and Blea Crag walk. The snow on the fell tops gave added drama to the views and maybe one or two members of the party might be encouraged to get up into the hills on a more regular basis.

We stayed at the excellent Grasmere Hostel which deserves the highest recommendation. We also enjoyed good food, good beer and good service at the Travellers Rest pub next door to the hostel.

Tweedies Bar in Grasmere also deserves a mention for the excellent beer that rounded off the weekend on the sunny Sunday afternoon.

Thanks to everyone who turned up and helped to make it such a memorable trip. And commiserations to those who didn't make it!
