22 07 2006 - Bowfell, Esk Pike, Allen Crags and Rosset Pike |

The weather forecast was for showers with possible thunder storms later and I almost changed my mind about setting off. I decided to risk it and fortunately there was no rain or thunder all day. It was a very hot day however, and some of the views and photographs were spoilt because of the general haziness. Nevertheless, today was a vast improvement on my last ascent of Bowfell and Esk Pike (both with Paul D) when on each occasion we had very poor weather and little in the way of any views at all. Esk Hause was very busy today with walkers but Allen Crags was quiet and I saw nobody else at all on Rossett Pike. I descended Rossett Crag via a boulder strewn gully. At one point, pausing and peering into a crack in the rocks I came eye to eye with some small, unspecified creature that stared back at me slightly startled. Eventually, I joined the path near the bottom of Rossett Gill. By the time I reached the Old Dungeon Ghyll I felt I had well and truly earned my beer. |
