03 07 2006 - Lingmell with Paul D and Meg

It was a very hot day with distant views hazy and a little disappointing. We set off from the National Trust campsite at Brackenclose following the steep path up the western shoulder of Lingmell. On the way up Lingmell Paul disappeared looking for Meg who had gone missing. Paul went on to the summit of Scafell Pike while my walk petered out on Lingmell. At the summit of Lingmell  the sound of bagpipes could be heard coming from Scafell Pike - no doubt a band of kilted Celts celebrating England's exit from the World Cup. I descended via Piers Gill and staggered parched and panting to the bar at the Wasdale Head Inn. Paul and Meg eventually turned up and so I didn't need to send out a search party for them. A heavy thunder storm  drove us back to the sanctuary of the pub later and helped to clear the air for the following day's trek across Red Pike and Pillar.
