08 08 2004 - Grey Friar, Swirl How and Great Carrs |

It was a very warm day with temperatures in the high twenties but strong winds in exposed places kept the tops relatively cool. Long-distance views were spoiled by a general haziness and consequently the photographs were not great. I started from Wrynose pass and followed the path that climbs steadily before heading off to the right across the hillside above Wrynose. Another steep section is reached (none of it difficult) before the path doubles back to the left and ascends to the cairn on Wet Side Edge. I turned right at the foot of Great Carrs (as described by Wainwright) and headed towards Grey Friar via Fairfield col. From here it was an easy and peaceful stroll to the summit. From the summit I dropped back down to Fairfield col and continued to Swirl How before dropping back down over Great Carrs. |
