28 07 2018 - Gowbarrow Fell with Alison, Joe, Ana and Jack.

We had to shelter in the car for a while because of a serious downpour before setting off towards the waterfalls of Aira Force. The skies cleared briefly but became increasingly cloudy again as we approached the summit. We stopped briefly for refreshments by the triangulation point but were almost immediately forced off the top by high winds and pounding rain. We  eventually made our way down through head-high bracken. Although the weather brightened up a bit we were well soaked by the time we got back to the car. A great start to our week in the Lakes - and everybody thoroughly enjoyed it!

Signs like this would be very helpful on many other fells

Towards Blencathra and Bannerdale Crags

Thankfully the rain didn't persist

And quite a bit of blue sky

There's a path in there somewhere
