Walk first completed September 1986 with Richard. Catstycam apparently means a steep ridge with a wildcat's path. A good enough description, I think. Coming down Swirral Edge from Helvellyn it's almost impossible not to be drawn back up again to the summit of Catstycam. I remember, on the first occasion I was at the summit, peering over the edge just as the cloud cleared beneath me to reveal the almost vertical, dizzy descent to the valley floor.
